Press Release – 10th December 2014

Lincad, a leader in the design and manufacture of specialist batteries, chargers and power management systems, is delighted to announce that its products are now powering Santa’s sleigh.

The company, based in Ash Vale, Surrey, won the pro bono contract after successfully demonstrating to Santa Claus, also known as Father Christmas, St Nicholas and Kris Kringle, that it had the research, design and manufacturing capabilities to meet the uniquely demanding specifications of the product brief. Lincad’s long pedigree of continually developing ‘lighter, faster and greener’ battery and charger technologies proved critical in this regard.
The company drew heavily on its wide ranging expertise to develop a battery and associated charging system that would be powerful enough, robust enough and light enough to replace the reindeer-based propulsion system on which Santa Claus had traditionally relied for many years to transport himself, as well as a very heavy sack of presents, on an annual trans-global flight undertaken in the hours of darkness.

In particular, Lincad incorporated elements from the High Power batteries it has developed for such demanding applications as robotic and deep sea exploration vessels. The company’s involvement in the development of an advanced solar energy storage system also proved vital to ensuring that Santa’s sleigh, having been charged during the North Pole’s summer months, would remain charged for its critical winter journey.

An elfin spokesperson for Father Christmas commented: “Whilst it was with deep regret that we felt obliged to retire Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and, of course, Rudolph, we are convinced that Lincad has provided us with a technological alternative that will enable us to deliver an ever increasing number of presents going forward”.

Peter Copplestone, Lincad’s Operations Manager, added: “We were delighted to have the opportunity to work with Santa Claus on the development of a new propulsion system for his sleigh. Lincad has a long history of providing specialist batteries and chargers designed to ease the burden of soldiers in the field, but in this case we have been able to help Santa with his growing burden of gifts – and help to make possible a well-deserved rest for his ever faithful reindeer”.
